UK charity Diagrama Foundation has pledged to raise vital funds for the Rusinga Friends Spotlight School in Kenya.
Rusinga Friends Spotlight School teaches over 300 children, of which many are orphans and the remaining are from vulnerable families. Some of the children have disabilities, there are children with sickle cell disease and two of the children are HIV positive.
In August 2024, David McGuire, Chief Executive, Diagrama Foundation accompanied by Marina Rubio, Head of Professional Standards took two eight-hour flights to Kenya followed by an eight-hour drive from Nairobi to visit the Rusinga Friends Spotlight School in Homa Bay.
David McGuire, Chief Executive Diagrama Foundation said, “As a charity that supports vulnerable children, young people, and adults to live their best life, I have been particularly moved by the needs of the children who attend or live in the Rusinga School in Homa Bay. One of our Kenyan associates visited the school on our behalf earlier this year but it was important that I made the visit to see first-hand what was needed to give the children the best chance of a good education and a better life.
“We now know the huge impact that £5,000 would make to the school children. It would allow them to finish the project to change the old metal classrooms into brick built structures and fence the area that was destroyed by the recent devasting floods. Fencing this land would mean that they could once again have animals and grow vegetables to feed the children and sell any surplus.
“Although we are a charity that relies on donations and grants to improve the lives of the adults, young people and children in our care, we cannot sit back and do nothing for these Kenyan children and we hope our friends and supporters might join us to reach our target.”
Diagrama Foundation is a charity that supports vulnerable children and adults to live their best lives. We achieve this by:
• Finding secure and nurturing families to care for children through our adoption and fostering services.
• Ensuring vulnerable elderly have the opportunity to live life to the full at our nursing and dementia care home, Edensor.
• Promoting the development of core skills for adults with learning disabilities at our residential service Cabrini House so that they can lead independent lives, integrated within their community.
• Enabling vulnerable people to develop the skills and confidence in their own and shared homes so they can lead independent, fulfilled lives through our Supported Living Service.
• Providing a day care provision Hub and Outreach Support for people with a learning disability, physical and sensory impairment, acquired brain injury and/or autism at Duckyls Farm and across Sussex.
