Russell Doty with Stage 4 Cancer

Hello, my name is Megan Doty, and I am truly blessed with an amazing family. Family is the most important thing in this world, but when you hear about someone being very sick in your own family, let alone hearing the word Cancer. It just strikes a different kind of hit to your heart.

My father-in-law, Russell Doty, is very loved & dear to our family. He is one of the kindest men you will ever know. Always willing to do whatever he can to help others, even if it means that he would go without. He received the news about 5 months ago that he had Lung Cancer. It definitely hit hard in our hearts to find out such a wonderful man is very sick. He started Chemotherapy and radiation about 4 months ago, and was declared in remission about 2 months ago.

He went last week for a routine scan and received the news that the cancer had come back and was on 3 locations on his body, his lungs, hip, and spine. This time they explained to him that it was Metastatic, stage 4 cancer, and it was not curable and that chemo would only help slow it down. He is a strong man, but let me tell you this has hit him hard. He is unable to work right now and recently been back in the hospital since Thursday for severe hyponatremia (low sodium). They are slowly working on raising his sodium levels but have to do it at a slow rate to not cause more harm to his body. This cancer has already taken a toll on his body let alone the emotional and mental damage.

His wonderful wife Karen Doty, has been working non-stop to help and provide for everything she can. She is a CNA and works nights so she can be there for her husband during the day to help with his needs and take him to the multiple doctor appointments to slow the progress down. It is taking a huge toll on them emotionally, physically and financially. Karen has been working as much as she can to help with the medical bills, medicines and regular bills that are coming in but its hard enough to do that with 2 incomes, but now they are down to just one.

His children, family members and friends have also been helping out as much as we can by taking him to doctors appointments, helping with food, and bills. It’s extremely hard for everyone during this time. We all love Russell Doty so much and knowing that someone who has made such an impact on this family will be gone is devastating.

As of right now the medical bills are piling up and there is plenty more to come with more hospital stays, doctors appointments and what comes after as well. I know it is a hard time for everyone so we completely understand if you are unable to help at the moment or can only donate a small amount. Every little bit helps in helping this amazing man get by in his time of need.
