"RUTH" The Short Film

Hi everybody! We are Leila Boisvert and Maya Ruby Smith, two film BFAs at DePaul University. We are thrilled to announce that we will be co-directing our short film, RUTH, set to begin production this fall.

Ruth, an 18-year-old freshman in college, is suddenly on her own for the first time in her life. Scrambling to find her purpose, she chases after a boy who doesn't give half of the same effort. Against her family and friends' advice, she pursues this boy to the point of isolation.

At its core, RUTH is about how much we, especially women, are willing to sacrifice to avoid being alone. Young adulthood is a very isolating and confusing experience to navigate; stay tuned to see how far Ruth goes to avoid her loneliness and become someone she doesn't recognize.

Our goal for our budget is to reach $2500. We are seeking these donations to provide food for our cast and crew, to make the experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. In addition, we will need funds for production design, and equipment rental purposes. Anything that you can share would be greatly appreciated, no matter how large or small. This story is so special to us and we are incredibly lucky to be able to tell it. As two young women in college, this story represents media we wish to see more of and would've loved to have seen when we were younger. Thank you so much! :-)
