Kayleen's Run for Drag the Red
Spende geschützt
My name is Kayleen McKay. I am 17 years old. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I am a grade 12 student at West Kildonan Collegiate. In July of 2015 my family was struck with the sudden and tragic loss of a family member to suicide. Shawn committed suicide by jumping off the Provencher Bridge into the Red River in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We contacted the police who did not do anything to assist us in searching for Shawn. We had a sense of hopelessness in finding Shawn. We then contacted Bernadette Smith of the Drag the Red group who assists families of Missing and Murdered Aboriginal Women. She immediately contacted Kyle Kematch of Drag the Red who met with my father at the Alexander Docks on the banks of the Red River and listened to our story and immediately began searching for Shawn. They did not stop searching for him until his body was recovered. Me and my family are extremely grateful to Drag the Red and all their volunteers for what they did for us. So in May of 2016, I will be making a 300 mile run from Duck Bay, MB where my grandparents are laid to rest to Winnipeg's Alexander Docks. My goal is to raise money for the Drag the Red group to assist them in their day to day operations in helping families search the Red River for their loved ones that have gone missing. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
