Rwanda emergency food aid appeal
Donation protected
On March 11, the World Health Organisation declared the outbreak of COVID-19 a global pandemic, reaching more than 118 countries and affecting hundreds of thousands of people.
My home country Rwanda is one of them.
In response, communities across the globe are coming together by fundraising for coronavirus affected regions to provide urgent aid and support. Each of us can do our part against the ongoing health emergency caused by the Covid-19 virus.
My name is Franco and I am a pharmacist and a front-line worker.
I am witnessing first-hand the significant impact on people as schools and businesses have shut. Many families are suffering from loss of income and struggling to support and feed themselves and their communities.
In Rwanda this struggle has become a threat to their survival.
Many people in Rwanda live day to day based upon the small, informal businesses that allow them to buy and sell to get what they need. The COVID-19 lock-down, which we completely support as a necessary step by our government, has made many of these business activities impossible, leaving people destitute and with nothing.
Together with my friends Father Jean - Principal of Regina Pacis School, head teacher Evariste and in partnership with our local community leaders, we have identified the most serious cases of hunger in our neighborhood.
A gift of £25 can provide 5 kg of rice, 5 kg of corn meal, cooking oil, salt and bars of soap, that can help feed, wash and allow a vulnerable family to stay at home for at least two weeks.
It would be wonderful if we could gather 100 donations £25 each, or 50 to donate £50 (a total of £2500), so we can help feed the most vulnerable families in the community I serve. And importantly pay money into the economy through purchases at local markets.
All donations of any size are welcome and much appreciated
For transparency: Your gift will be transferred from the ‘gofundme’ page to Caritas Rwanda to ensure all of your donations reach those people in need
