Rwanda "Giving Back" Trip
Donation protected
Sharing the Luck
Recently, I took a leap of faith and signed up to join in a journey to Rwanda in May with a local group out of the University of Calgary - Athletes in Action. They’ve been going to Rwanda for years helping to rebuild the community and to let them know they’re not alone.
While there, we will be volunteering in women's vocational schools teaching English and other skills, lending a hand in local hospitals, providing refugee camp relief, helping to construct new buildings, and helping in any way we can.
800,000 innocent people killed in the genocide of 1994. 825,000 orphans today (1 in 10 is an orphan child). Desperate poverty. No government or cavalry coming to the rescue.
Hmm… I’ve got so much, they’ve got so little. It's time to give my time to try and brighten their lives and share my luck however i can!
If I’ve learned anything living in Alberta, it’s that when someone’s in need, we reach for those who are down. I’m guessing if you’re here, you realize how lucky you are, wherever you live, and you too love that feeling you get when you share the luck.
My Ask of You
As I haven’t won the lottery “yet”, I am humbly asking for any of you who can, to donate to this mission and help me help others. Through your help, I will be representing you and sharing your luck with people who’ve had more than their fair share of tough times. Letting them know that other people are thinking of them and lending them a hand up.
I will be collecting funds over the next 2 months leading to our departure at the beginning of May. Any amount you are able to donate will be gratefully appreciated!
Funds raised will go to: 1) Project support costs (most of the donations - split between various projects we will be supporting while there, listed above), 2) basic airfare, and 3) food from the locals.
Anything above and beyond will be put together with the other mission members and donated to a project of our choice!! We would love to leave a legacy behind and change the future for as many people as we can :)
"The day i became rich was the day i defined what rich was to me!" ... Giving back and helping others makes us rich beyond our wildest dreams!
