Rwandan families who need mattresses

Rwandan Purpose Project

This Purpose Project comes from the beautiful country of Rwanda. It’s very hard to describe how open-hearted Rwandans are. I was quite humbled by their hospitality and generosity. Many Rwandans work in the country, and they work extremely hard. We visited a village called Kinigi that was near the Volcanoes National Park. Despite not knowing us, these families freely invited us into their homes. We didn’t tell them that we were hoping to help them, or wanted to buy them mattresses. We only asked if we could see their homes.

There was no hesitation at all in inviting us in. One thing is clear, these people may not have many of the comforts that we take for granted in developed countries, but they are extremely grateful for what they have, and focus on family, friends and community.

If you watch our video, you can see how surprised and excited these families were to receive a mattress. Something seemingly so small but something that makes such a difference in their sleeping arrangements. Giving them some physical comfort that isn’t easy to come by. A mattress for children can be purchased for $35 and an adult mattress is $75. We provided mattresses for four families, an adult mattress and a childrens’ mattress for each. There are many more families that could be helped and we would like to buy 50 adult and 50 childrens mattresses to help them. This would cost approximately $5,500 so to net this amount after paying GoFundMe fees, we would like to set our fundraising goal at $6,000.

We would greatly appreciate any amount donated towards buying these mattresses to give these families a place to sleep that they really look forward to. We will have future pictures and videos showing the mattresses being delivered to families so you can see the huge impact that these mattresses make on their lives.
