Serengeti Girls Run 2023

On October 27th, Liz and I will touch down at the Sasakwa airstrip in Africa along with 15 other women from around the world to participate in the Serengeti Girls Run. A joint initiative between Singita (a leader in ecotourism and conservation) and the Grumeti Fund (a non-profit dedicated to wildlife conservation and community development programs), this event raises funds for the empowerment, education, and care of girls in rural Tanzania. We would love your support as we aim to reach our fundraising goal of $10,000.

For the 6th consecutive year, this event is a celebration of community, collaboration, and conservation that makes an impactful contribution to the girls of Tanzania. Whether on foot or supporting the runners in the shadow vehicle, the main event is a 3-day, multi-stage, 39-mile run through Singita’s 350,000-acre protected reserve – where giraffes, lions, wildebeests, and other “locals” will have a front row seat. Sam is in training mode for the run, while Liz will be part of the team supporting the event. We both can't wait to engage with the girls in a 5K fun run and other community events.

Your contribution will help fund Tanzania girls’ programs including:

• Scholarships for 80 local girls in secondary school, vocational studies, and university

• Community events for 5,000 high school girls

• One year’s worth of sanitary pads for 5,000 high school girls so that they can attend school with dignity and pride

• A mentorship program

• Life-skills training

During our week in the Serengeti, we will also experience some of the Grumeti Fund’s community and conservation initiatives – including a community fun run with the girls and a high school career fair.
