Delmar Sunflower+ Project
Donation protected
Last summer over 150 volunteers planted and tended 15,000 sunflower seeds… that is 30 rows… 375 feet long… 9 inches apart… ! The result was beautiful, stunning, fun, and very hopeful.
Want to help this summer? Sign up to Volunteer and/or Contribute on line… $10…$20… $50… $250… $1,000… it all helps!
The Delmar Sunflower+ Project is an initiative to activate and beautify a vacant stretch of Delmar. The area is near Third Degree Glass at 51xx Delmar.
Once this stretch of Delmar was a thriving residential community with hundreds of residents – today it sits vacant, forgotten and forlorn.
The Delmar Sunflower + Project, is an outgrowth the Sustainable Land Lab, a partnership between Washington University and the City of St. Louis aimed at rethinking vacant land in St. Louis. The goal of the Delmar Sunflower+ Project soil remediation, community building, and ultimately to spur redevelopment of these long vacant parcels.
This fall, we plan to bring partners together to hold a charrette - a collaborative session in which a group of designers drafts a solution(s) to a design problem – to identify good development ideas for the site.
Meanwhile… the Delmar Sunflower + Project enhances all of us who participate and those who get the pleasure of just walking, bike riding, or driving by.
The owner, CWE Housing Corporation, is a not for profit 501c(3). Funds raised will go towards equipment rental, tilling, grass cutting, Mo Botanical Garden consulting, signage, taxes on the property, and the monarch butterfly garden.
