Only one journalist has covered every single Super Bowl. That's 93-year-old Jerry Green of Detroit, heading to L.A. this week cover the Rams v Bengals for The Detroit News. But, as Newsweek reports today, as a freelance contributor, Green must pay his own way -- flight, food, hotel -- for himself and his daughter, who now accompanies him to watch out for his safety and health.

Green is an amazing person. He was poolside with Joe Namath at Super Bowl III in an iconic Sports Illustrated photo. He's covered championships for all four Detroit sports teams, although the last time the Lions won was in the 1950s before there was a Super Bowl. He was there for that, too.

It's a shame that newspapers are so cash-strapped these days that a 93-year-old has to pay to do his work, which he loses money on but does anyway because it's his passion and livelihood.

This could be Jerry's last Super Bowl. Let's raise enough money for Jerry and his daughter to fly direct, stay somewhere nice and have some good meals. It's only right that after more than 60 years, he gets to go out in style.
