As many of you may know Ryan Barton was involved in a severe vehicle accident Thursday evening, April 19th. The past seven days have been a whirlwind for Ryan and the rest of our family. We cannot begin to thank everyone for the numerous text messages, Facebook correspondences, and phone calls. The outpouring of support we have received has been positively overwhelming.
Ryan is currently sedated and in critical condition at Maine Medical Center. His accident left him with two severe brain bleeds and brain swelling. The doctors began with heavy sedation and then decided a medically induced coma would be the best option to let his brain recover. His neuro team is closely monitoring his brain swelling and the surgical team is on standby around the clock. His left lung collapsed, but that is now stable. He is currently fighting pneumonia, a fever and an infection at this time. He also has two fractured vertebrae in his upper neck that will slowly heal over time.
If you are lucky enough to know Ryan personally you know what a kind hearted and loving guy he is, especially to his friends and family. He would absolutely do anything, for anyone. He enjoys the outdoors, taking weekend trips up north to Eustis to ride his snowmobile with friends and enjoys going to his family camp on Moxie Lake.
We pray Ryan will make a 100% recovery, but the timeline is unknown right now. We are hoping to help Ryan as much as possible as he will be out of work for an extended period time. We are sitting around the clock anxiously waiting status changes and improvements. We truly appreciate everyone’s love and support during this difficult time.
5/3/18 THANK YOU, to everyone who has donated to help with Ryan's recovery- it means so much to the family. The neurologists are pleased with Ryan's slow and steady progress. He is still on a ventilator and sedated off and on but when awake, his eyes are now tracking Brenda, Craig and Amanda in the room and he has strong hand and arm functions. Please continue to pray for Ryan as he is making small strides everyday.
