Update:
We appreciate so much all of the prayers for Ryan and Autumn and our families and also the donations that have been made. To keep this page updated, Ryan has passed away. The amount of people who have expressed to us how just completely awesome Ryan was as a person gives us some comfort. Being the person he was, Ryan chose to save multiple lives through organ donation - two people that the family knew of through mutual friends have received kidneys to save their lives, and 6 more will receive the gift of life through Ryan’s selflessness. We are endlessly proud of the man Ryan was and will always be remembered as. Please continue to pray for Autumn, the love of his life, Ryan’s parents and sister, Autumn’s family, and the rest of Ryan’s family. Our hearts are all broken. Please continue to share this page and donate if you’re able, as Autumn is going to have lots of expenses to take care of while dealing with major life changes and hard choices.
Hi everyone,
As most of you know my cousin Ryan Osborne was in a terrible freak accident which left him with a traumatic brain injury. I have set up this go fund me account to help with any and all expenses for Ryan, Autumn & their family as this is going to be a very long road ahead.
We all appreciate everyone’s thoughts, prayers and kindness during this time.
More details on what happened and Ryan’s condition below:
First of all, what happened to Ryan was a complete freak accident. The driver did not see Ryan at all and was cleared by police. A complete tragic accident. Please pray for this man as well.
Our whole family had a meeting with Ryan’s team Saturday afternoon to discuss his injuries and prognosis, and I am going to do my best to explain. The injuries that Ryan sustained were completely to his head. He suffered a complete dissection of his carotid artery, which supplies blood and oxygen to his brain. This was able to be repaired and bleeding stopped, but damage had already been done. He has many facial fractures as well as skull fractures that require surgery to fix. There is a displaced fracture that is a possible immediate threat to his airway. Ryan’s midbrain, which is the main area that controls basically all of his normal functions is severely damaged. During the surgery to fix the artery, there was a major blood vessel on the right side of his brain that essentially had a stroke, causing additional damage in that area. Ryan had a couple hours Saturday night of what they call “neurostorming”, which is where basically his body went into fight or flight mode and was unable to regulate body temperature, blood pressure, etc. With medications, they were able to stop this neurostorming. Due to the amount of bleeding he had, they said that a lot of the blood loss has gone to his stomach and lungs, which could cause him to need additional support breathing in the next couple of days. He is, however, breathing on his own, but just needs support from the ventilator. As of this morning he does have some bleeding in the back left of his brain.
Going forward, Autumn, Todd, Jane, and Brittany have major decisions to make. The options are to either do surgeries to assist his body with the functions that his brain is unable to do at this time…..or to give Ryan comfort care. The main support surgeries being a tracheotomy to give him a more permanent support for breathing, and a G tube for feeding. Medically, the doctors are saying that Ryan will never be the Ryan that we know again. “Best case scenario”, he can live a “minimally conscious state” where he may open his eyes some, wipe his face, etc but will never be able to walk, talk, feed himself again. He would require 24/7 care at a facility or round the clock care at home. We all know that Ryan would not want to live like this, so we are faced with the absolute gut wrenching decision of giving him time to heal by doing the supportive surgeries and waiting and seeing, or to provide comfort care which would ultimately lead to his passing. The decision has to be made by the beginning of this week. Please use this information to pray specifically for Ryan’s healing.
Ryan’s doctors are absolutely amazing and he is in the best of the best place for the circumstance he has tragically been dealt, BUT….here is where we need your help. Our family is big on faith in God and we know that miracles DO HAPPEN. We know that God was working through Autumn by making sure that she had recently learned CPR. Had she not, Ryan would not be here right now. We know that God had him in this place with the best of the best care nearby. We know that God can perform miracles, and we are absolutely NOT READY TO GIVE UP on our precious, loved Ryan. Ryan and Autumn had just begun their lives together. Their first wedding anniversary is coming up. Ryan is soooo incredibly smart, funny, kind, caring, and just an amazing person. He is STRONG. He is HEALTHY. He is SO young. This life is not done with him. He has so much more to come. His precious new baby dog Arya loves and needs him. Autumn needs him. My aunt and uncle need their baby. Brittany needs her baby brother. Grayson needs his uncle who he loves so incredibly much. We ALL need Ryan to be okay. We need a miracle.
