Ryan Ranch Pickleball Courts

The Monterey Bay Pickleball Club, in conjunction with local pickleball players, is working with the City of Monterey to create a new pickleball complex at Ryan Ranch Park in Monterey. The proposed design would have 8 dedicated courts with shaded seating and other amenities. The total cost for design and construction is estimated to be nearly $500,000.

In June of 2023, we had our first major success!

In the City of Monterey, projects like this are implemented through the NCIP program. That's the Neighborhood and Community Improvement Program. This unique program gives Monterey residents a voice on how hotel tax revenue is spent. Early this year, we submitted a project to design this pickleball complex, and in June, the NCIP committee voted overwhelmingly to allocate $80,000 for the facility's design. City Council approval is expected in September after which the City can hire a firm to implement the design.

Now the hard work begins!

Construction will cost another $400+. Most NCIP projects of this magnitude are rejected. So, as part of our pitch, we communicated that we will enter into a partnership with the City to build these courts. To that end, our goal is to raise $100,000 towards construction costs by February 2024. If we can achieve that, we believe it is a near certainty that the NCIP committee will allocate funds to cover the remaining costs.

That's where you come in!

Please consider donating to this fundraiser and encourage your friends, family, and especially your fellow pickleball players to donate. The physical, social, and mental benefits of pickleball are well-documented. It has been the fastest-growing sport in the US for the last 3 years, and while the sport is now well established in the retirement community, the largest area of growth is actually in the younger population. It is also well-documented that pickleball is a noisy sport. Fortunately, this dedicated facility stands apart from our tennis counterparts and away from residential communities. Being in the landing zone of the Monterey airport and near a recycling plant, this area is no stranger to noise. This site has the opportunity to be a haven for pickleball players to congregate and enjoy the sport they love without disturbing others. Please consider donating -- no amount is too small.
