Ryan Tillman - Colorectal Cancer Treatment

Since February, Ryan has had severe pelvic pain, constipation and blood in her stool. Due to her not having health insurance and being a single mother of three young children, she tried to push through it. After several months of pain and agony, she went to the ER where she was not properly cared for due to not having health insurance.

Shortly after, while still dealing with the symptoms, she was admitted to the ER for a second time when we received the worst news possible… a large mass in her pelvic area was discovered. The MRI discovered she has stage 3 colorectal cancer and a mass that has attacked her left ovary and two lymph nodes. To relieve some of the pain, a temporary colostomy was placed.

Due to a mismatch repair deficiency, she doesn’t qualify for a clinical trial. Ryan’s colorectal doctor and oncologist have determined they would like to proceed with chemo and radiation treatment as soon as possible to shrink the tumor so it can be surgically removed. She is expected to begin chemo and radiation before the end of May and her doctors expect this process will take about a year.

We hope to pass the word to others that if you know something is wrong with your body, whether you have health insurance or not, always advocate for your health needs! Please keep my sister, our family, and especially her children, in your thoughts and prayers while we learn to navigate life with this diagnosis and get through treatments. She has a long road ahead to get to recovery and could really use everyone’s encouragement and positive vibes.
