SUPPORT RYAN'S REHAB AS HE ATTEMPTS TO COMPLETE HIS FIRST MARATHON!
Two years ago, no one could tell me what would happen. Will I ever stand? Walk? Spinal cord injuries are unpredictable, they said. We won't know until we know.
Well, we've come a long way since then. I am walking with a walker and am virtually out of my chair full time. #Goals
But, I have lots of work left to do - I want to return to skiing and begin walking with CRUTCHES. I can't do it without your help!
The sad reality is the average cost of living with a spinal cord injury (just basic medical care, supplies, equipment) is some where around $15,000 a year. This price tag not include some of the incredibly beneficial rehabilitation programs that have gotten me this far. Those costs have drained our resources. I don't want to run out of money before I run out of potential healing.
The rehab program that has gotten me back on my feet includes:
SCI Personal Training - $600/month
Loco-motor Retraining - $100/hour (It works - look at me go!)
So its times to add something new to the list - a marathon!
I will be competing in the hand cycling division of the Vermont City Marathon to help support my ongoing rehab!!!
Any help is greatly appreciated and I look forward to seeing you on a sunny (hopefully) May day in Burlington!
