Ryan’s battle with a brain tumor

UPDATE

All,

First of all, thank you all so much for what you have done to date. We wanted to provide an update and ask for additional assistance.

Ryan is headed north to the Mayo clinic in Rochester, Minnesota in January to continue treatment with proton radiation.  The hope is that this focused type therapy will eliminate the cancerous brain tumor cells completely.  Sounds like the treatment requires a 6 week stay, the first two weeks being completely out of pocket at a local hotel before any kind of insurance benefits kick in.

We’d like Ryan to focus on his treatment and getting better, instead of worrying about additional costs.  And like most medical situations, there are probably un-foreseen costs that could be significant.

So with that, we are trying to raise an additional $2,500  to cover his 2 week stay and the 920 mile round trip fuel costs.

This campaign is being setup to generate funding for medical expenses created by Ryan’s journey to eliminate a cancerous brain tumor.

In 2017, Ryan went to see doctors about a painful electrical-shock type of sensation in the front upper part of his head.  He for some time had written it off as “a weird headache” but after imaging, was told he needed surgery to remove a large tumor that had formed.  A little over a month later and Ryan was under the knife to open the top part of his skull and remove the tumor.

Being the main provider to his young family, the months of recovery time came with challenges not only from a financial perspective but life as well.  However after time those stresses started to fade and Ryan began to feel more normal again.  Always staying positive and looking forward to a time when the surgery and tumor related tensions would be over, Ryan was hopeful each time he went in for a follow up visit.

In early May of 2018, at a follow up visit, it was identified that the cancer had returned.  By early November, the size of the tumor had increased even more.  Doctors advised Ryan to get a second opinion to determine next steps.

Ryan and his family are not the type of people to take handouts or wallow in self-pity.  His calm and optimistic demeanor has helped him deal with the conditions better than most.  The affects this has and will have on him as a person, both physically and mentally are a secondary concern for Ryan.  All of his thoughts center around what affects his cancer and treatment will have on his wife and 6 year old son.

Funding the expenses associated with the burden of traveling to specialists, chemotherapy, scans, medications, insurance deductibles and fees will support his positive and forward-thinking attitude as well as aid Ryan in getting the best care available to finally end his battle with cancer
