Ryan's Fundraiser for the Fight Against Sarcoma

Tax deductible

On September 19th, I will be participating in the San Francisco Marathon. Completing this race has been a goal of mine since the summer of 2019.

My race is dedicated to supporting sarcoma research programs through the Sarcoma Foundation of America. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

Sarcoma is a rare form of cancer found in the connective tissues of the body (ligaments, muscles, fat, tendons, cartilage, bones, blood vessels, nerves, etc. – essentially any area of the body that is not an organ). While sarcomas make up less than 1% of cancer cases diagnosed every year, there are over 50 different types of sarcoma – each one typically requires unique treatment.

More information about Sarcoma Foundation of America:

The mission of the Sarcoma Foundation of America (SFA) is to advocate for sarcoma patients by funding research and by increasing awareness about the disease. The organization raises money to privately fund grants for sarcoma researchers and conducts education and advocacy efforts on behalf of sarcoma patients. Your donation will fund sarcoma research and programs that align with the goals of the Foundation, namely:

·        “Advocating for increased government funding against sarcoma.

·        Creating alliances with the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries to rapidly develop new and better sarcoma treatments.

·        Increasing public awareness regarding early detection of sarcoma.

·        Educating sarcoma patients.”

More on my story:

In October 2018, I was diagnosed with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) in my right foot. DFSP is a very rare and aggressive cancer, representing less than .05% of all cancer diagnoses annually. Thanks to the incredible support of my family and care from phenomenal doctors, we were able to remove the tumor in December of 2018. I am fortunate to have avoided recurrence to this point.

My foot will never feel or look the same after this experience. However, I am extremely fortunate to continue an active and healthy lifestyle - which includes running - thanks to a lot of hard work and care from my doctors.

My race serves as a celebration of my health and an opportunity to raise money for a tremendous cause that needs funding.
