Help prevent future stillbirths in the UK
(Hey guys! We smashed it! Thanks to everyone that got involved with this campaign, I'm so grateful to everyone who contributed! Ryan)
--- This campaign is now finished ---
Remembering Isaac on his 1st birthday, please help us to raise money to help prevent future stillbirths in the UK…
Baby Isaac was born sleeping on 29th September 2019, he was born the day after his due date. His Mum, my sister - Chantal, had a low-risk, healthy pregnancy, and the Doctors couldn’t say with any certainty what caused this otherwise healthy baby to suddenly pass away when labour started.
The pain of losing any baby is agonising enough, but not knowing for certain the cause or what could’ve prevented it, is something that stays with you forever – leaving a lot of anxiety and so many ‘whys?’ and ‘hows?’ that remain unanswered.
Seeing my Sister and Brother-in-Law celebrate their pregnancy, prepare and get excited for their baby’s arrival to then suddenly losing him in such an unexpected way is something that has been devastating not only for them but for the wider family too, myself included. We feel that had more testing and scans been in place throughout the pregnancy, perhaps things could’ve been different, which is why this September, to commemorate what would’ve been my nephews 1st birthday, I’m cycling from London to Brighton to raise money for a pioneering research centre called Tommy’s Research Clinic whose aim is to offer exactly that – research, tests and scans to help prevent miscarriages and stillbirth in the UK.
From Chantal & David (Isaac’s Mum and Dad):
“Seeing and holding your firstborn child in your arms for the first time when they have already passed away is the most earth-shattering thing… you can’t even begin to imagine the pain. The hope and anticipation of welcoming this new life in to the world, bonding with them, feeling them kick and move for so many months – even up until the day they were born, having all their things bought and laid out ready in their room, and then seeing them for the first time, perfectly formed, perfectly beautiful – but never seeing them open their eyes or taking a breath is beyond the imaginable. What’s more, coming home from a hospital with nothing more than some hand prints, a couple of pamphlets and an empty car seat, to an empty nursery, is something no parent should ever have to experience. We would love you to help Ryan raise money and awareness to prevent this happening to other parents”.
Tommy’s clinic fund research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth. Unbelievably 8 babies are still lost every day in the UK from stillbirth, that's 2943 every year. Their research into the causes of stillbirth are vital for families across the country to prevent future losses.
