Rya's Bottom Surgery & Britt’s Cancer Fundraiser

Hello friends and loved ones,

I am reaching out to you today with a deeply personal and important request. I am embarking on a journey towards gender affirmation, and I need your support to make it a reality.

For years, I have grappled with the internal struggle of gender dysphoria. It has taken immense courage, self-reflection, and the unwavering support of Britt, for me to embrace my authentic self. In 2018, I took a pivotal step on this path by beginning hormone replacement therapy, and since then, I have grown more confident and at peace with myself.

Now, I am preparing for a crucial next step in my transition—an affirming surgery that aligns my physical body with my true identity. The surgery is scheduled for September 11th, 2023, and it will be performed by Dr. Min Jun at the Crane Center for Transgender Surgery in Greenbrae, California.

As you may know, gender-affirming procedures are not only emotionally significant but also come with a significant financial burden. Despite having insurance, the expenses associated with the surgery, travel, accommodations, and the extended recovery period in San Francisco are daunting. That's why I am reaching out to you today, humbly asking for your support.

My goal is to raise $10,000, which will cover the cost of housing, food and daily expenses during my recovery. Any funds raised beyond this amount will be donated to Point of Pride's annual transgender surgery fund, enabling others in need to access the transformative care they deserve.

UPDATE 8/18/23: As many of you already know, my amazing wife Britt was diagnosed with cervical cancer two weeks ago. This has been an extremely difficult time for both of us, but we are trying to remain as positive as we can. 

Unfortunately, this means that Britt and Lio will not be able to accompany me to San Francisco for my surgery. While we do not know the exact plan of attack at the moment, it is looking like she will have to go through radiation and chemotherapy while I am recovering from surgery. During my recovery and Britt’s treatment, we will be leaning on our support system to help us get through this difficult time. Because of this, we are expanding this fundraiser to help with the costs involved with Britt’s cancer fight. As of now, we do not know how much this is going to end up costing us, so the goal is going to remain the same.
