Support Andy's Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
This is a post I never expected to write.
For months, my brother Andy had been experiencing difficulty swallowing and feeling generally unwell due to acid reflux. On February 2nd, he underwent an EGD, where doctors discovered a large tumor at the end of his esophagus, near his stomach.
Just two days later, he had his first appointment at LMC with his oncologist, followed by a consultation with a surgical oncologist. It was confirmed that Andy has gastroesophageal (GE) junction carcinoma. He will need an esophagectomy to remove the tumor and will undergo cancer treatment.
The Treatment Plan
• March 3rd: Surgery to place a chemo port and feeding tube, requiring an overnight hospital stay.
• March 5th: Begins chemotherapy and radiation.
• Radiation: 28 treatments, five days a week.
• Chemotherapy: Administered every other week until surgery.
• Surgery at Duke: After completing radiation, Andy will wait approximately eight weeks before undergoing an esophagectomy. His stomach will be used to reconstruct a new esophagus.
• Goal: Doctors hope that chemo and radiation will shrink the tumor before surgery.
How You Can Help
While Andy has medical insurance through his employer, we know that the costs of treatment, travel to Duke, and other needs will exceed what insurance covers. Because of this, we’ve set up a GoFundMe for those who have asked how they can help. We deeply appreciate any support, whether through donations, prayers, or words of encouragement.
Prayer Requests
• Pray for Andy’s complete healing.
• Pray for our family as we support him through this journey.
• Pray for wisdom and skill for his medical team.
• Praise God for His provisions, mercy, and grace along the way.
We are incredibly grateful for your prayers, support, and encouragement as we navigate this difficult time.
With love and gratitude,
David (Andy's little brother)
