In Baltimore, there is a strong hatred towards the transgender community, and Tai was a victim of this senseless violence simply for trying to live her truth. She was gunned down just a block away from her home, which was supposed to be her sanctuary.
It is heartbreaking to think that living authentically led to such a tragic end for Tai.
No mother should ever have to bury their child, especially under these circumstances. This unexpected loss has left Tai's family devastated and mourning the unimaginable pain of losing a loved one.
Her mother is now facing the unimaginable task of saying goodbye to her child. As a community, we must stand together in solidarity against hatred, violence, and discrimination. Today, and every day, we must show that we are united as siblings, friends, families, and advocates against all forms of adversity.
We must show that humanity will prevail in the face of such senseless tragedy.
