Rylee Burghoff's Cancer Journey
Donation protected
On Tuesday January 30th, Miles and Katie Burghoff received a call that no parent should ever have to receive. Rylee Burghoff, age 10 months had tested positive for cancer.
On Friday January 26th, Katie brought Riley to the hospital with some concerns. She had a fever, a black eye with no known origin, and something just didn't feel right. The doctor agreed that something may be off and ran some preliminary blood tests which showed elevated liver enzymes, low red blood cell count, a viral infection and an UTI. These results could have numerous implications, but to be safe, further tests were run on the following Monday.
Tuesday morning the results came back positive with a very rare type of cancer that affects less than 1000 children a year in the US. This cancer is called Neuroblastoma and is found mostly in children under the age of 5. It starts in the very early forms of nerve cells, most often found in an embryo or fetus. The term neuro refers to nerves, while blastoma refers to a cancer that starts in immature or developing cells.

Depending on the final diagnoses, Rylee will be looking at 18-24months of treatments, followed by years of follow-ups.
Miles and Katie will be moving to get specialized help, support, and treatments for Rylee. We are currently raising money for medical costs, relocation costs, and any miscellaneous bills that may come up over the long months ahead.
Miles and Katie will be posting numerous photos, videos, and updates of their journey. Not only to keep you informed, but to also help other families that are looking for support on their journey. A journey that no parent should have to face alone.
Please know that the donation goal amount may change as treatment becomes more clear. If there are donations not spent on necessities, they will be donated back to a cancer research center where treatment takes place.
We would like to thank you in advance for your generosity and sharing this GoFundMe with friends and on social media.
