Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and autism are both general terms for a group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and non-verbal communication, and repetetive behaviors.
*1 in 68 children have autism.
*Autism is the fastest growing serious developmental disability in the United States.
*Autism costs a family an average of $60,000 per year.
*There is no medical detection or cure for autism.
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) can be defined as a condition in which the brain has trouble receiving and responding to information that comes in through the senses.
Many sources, and much research, shows that the best treatment for ASD and SPD is early intervention. Early intervention includes therapies such as Occupational, Physical, Speech, Behavioral, Music, and CranioSacral therapies.
Our goal is to raise enough money to send our son, age 3, recently diagnosed with ASD and SPD to Adam's Camp, an intensive therapy camp. Adam's Camp mission statement reads:
"The mission of Adam's Camp is to maximize the strengths and potential of children and young adults with special needs. To support more kids with special needs and their families, Adam's Camp is growing by replicating our successful and unique programs throughout the county."
The Early Start program at Adam's Camp offers an intensive, multidisciplinary therapy program, over the course of 5 days. During that time, our son will receive:
*3 hours of multidisciplinary therapy,
*Teams of 4 pediatric therapists and 1 volunteer work exclusively with 4 children,
*Each child has an individualized goal-centered treatment plan that all therapists adhere to,
*A comprehensive clinical report is provided for parents
To learn more about Adam's Camp, we invite you to visit their website at www.Adamscamp.org.
The cost of the 5 day camp is $2400.00, in which $1200.00 is the responsibility of the participant's family. We hope to raise as much money to assist in allowing our son this great opportunity.
