Amy Hillis Memorial

Amy Albers Hillis was an incomparably kind, caring, brilliant, witty, and genuine human being—a fiercely devoted wife, mother, and friend—a teacher, a deep thinker, and a bright light to everyone who had the good fortune of knowing her. After battling cancer for the last year, Amy passed away on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, gone too soon at the age of 45. She leaves behind her loving husband Shawn and incredible daughters Abby, Maddie, and Annie, as well as her shining example of Christlike love, service, and spiritual dynamism.

As we mourn her, we are mindful of the additional stresses of this time on the Hillis family. Anyone who would like to bring a meal to the family in the coming days can sign up here: https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/048o83

The Hillises are extremely grateful for all the expressions of remembrances of Amy and appreciate all the offers of support and help. The family was blessed to have sufficient insurance that allowed them to avoid most of the financial burdens that normally accompany cancer treatments, but for those still wishing to help, they have offered the following suggestions that they feel would be very meaningful to Amy:

                    • Given that Amy’s father died last year of the same cancer with the same resistance to treatments, Amy feared that the cancer had a genetic component that would present in her daughters. Any support of colon and rectal cancer research and treatments would help address Amy's great fear—that her daughters would suffer from the same cancer.

                    • If you wish to remember Amy in a more personal way, the Hillises ask that you consider extending a compassionate service to help and uplift someone who needs it, as Amy did for so many others.

If you wish to provide help more directly to the family, consider a small donation on this page that the family will use in a way to remember and honor Amy. You may also leave any memories of Amy or well wishes for the Hillis family in the comments.

Thank you so much for your love and support as we grieve and honor a powerhouse of goodness, intellect, and joy, the inimitable Amy Hillis.
