Dear Friends and Kind Strangers,
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Today, we're sharing a story that's far from reaching its final chapter; there are still many exciting chapters yet to be written!
I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart but also with a deep sense of hope and determination. Our free-spirited Kamala Thomas, is an adventurous soul with insatiable wanderlust but most of all she is a good friend. Kamala is facing a formidable challenge. She has been diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma arising in the Teratoma, an exceptionally rare and aggressive form of cancer.
The Battle Ahead
Cancer is a word nobody wants to hear. It is devastating, scary and life changing, but for Kamala, it has also ignited a fierce determination to fight.
Despite undergoing a major operation in May 2024, the cancer persists, requiring a second critical surgery scheduled for July 8th in Auckland. It is 'recommended' this will be followed by an intensive chemotherapy regimen starting in late August. The road ahead is a minefield and Kamala is currently gathering information, researching alternate treatment options and navigating this as best she can. She faces a difficult path ahead, dealing with lots of treatments, decisions, and uncertainties, but she's facing it all with incredible bravery.
Kamala's journey is not just a personal battle; it's a call for team support. Kam has always been a beacon of strength, self-reliance and resilience, but she cannot face this battle alone. She needs our help to cover the costs of her treatment, which are extensive and beyond what she can manage on her own.
As Kamala's friends we have the power to make a difference in her life. Some of you may or may not know, Kamala and her brother lost both of their parents tragically at a young age, and there is no other family to reach out to during this difficult time.
Her nomadic lifestyle, often residing in her skillfully designed camper van, reflects her adventurous spirit and determination to live life to the fullest. However, during this critical phase of treatment, her camper van is not conducive to the rest and recovery she desperately needs.
Your support is vital in ensuring Kamala can access the best possible care and treatment options available worldwide. Medical expenses are mounting, and the financial burden is overwhelming for someone who has always worked hard to support herself.
Funds raised through this campaign will directly contribute to covering her medical expenses including alternative therapies and adjunct treatments that could make all the difference in her fight against cancer.
Here’s how you can make a difference:
Donate: Your financial contribution, no matter how small, will go directly toward Kamala's medical expenses and treatment costs. It will provide her with the resources needed to explore all avenues for recovery either here in New Zealand or abroad.
Share: Spread Kamala's story far and wide within your networks. The power of social media and word-of-mouth can amplify our efforts and connect Kamala with invaluable support and resources.
Send Positive Messages: Your words of encouragement, prayers, and positive energy are invaluable. Knowing that she has a village of supporters behind her fuels Kamala's hope and boosts her determination to overcome this challenge.
Kamala's journey is not just about survival; it's about embracing life with resilience and optimism. Her strength in facing this unexpected chapter has inspired us all.
Let's rally together to show Kamala that she is not alone in this fight!
Your generosity will provide her with the gift of hope and healing, ensuring that she can focus on what truly matters – reclaiming her health and continuing her journey with renewed vigour and spirit.
Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and unwavering support during this difficult time. Together, we can help Kamala conquer this nasty rare cancer and write many more chapters of adventure, laughter, and joy in her life.
