Help Karen and family

Hi, my name is April and I am Karen’s daughter. She has been married for 35 years to my dad, Bob and has 3 children and 2 grandchildren. Karen was a teacher for kids with special needs for 20 years.

I am fundraising money to help pay for medical costs and traveling expenses.

Karen was admitted to Holmes Regional Hospital on Tuesday for shortness of breath. After waiting for 6 hours, she finally got a room in the ER and immediately had an oxygen mask. She was told she had fluid around her heart and extremely high blood pressure. This is when we found out about undiagnosed diabetes.

She was soon placed in the Cardiac ICU and told she is in heart failure. Since being in the ICU, she has been sedated with a breathing tube. She was brought into surgery, where we found out she has had silent heart attacks and blocked arteries restricting blood flow to heart. That evening she was transported to ORMC to receive more extensive care. They are trying to keep her stable and determine the next step but have told us this will be a very long road as she is in critical condition.

At this moment we have no answers to give besides the info posted.

We would be so grateful for any help and support our friends and loved ones can do.

UPDATE 5/4/2024

After being monitored for two days the doctors think it is best if we let Karen rest for the week to build up her strength and continue being monitored. Towards the end of the next week the doctors will reassess her to see what the best option might be moving forward.

My dad, Bob, will be staying at a hotel in Orlando by the hospital for the remainder of Karen’s stay.

UPDATE 5/6/24

With a heavy heart, my mom Karen has passed away. Our family has suffered a great loss. We will not be sharing any more information other than what has been previously posted for the respect of my mom and my family.

Thank you all for your positive thought and prayers.

I ask during this time to pease respect my families privacy as we figure out our next steps.
