On March 6, 2021 Matthew Brolly was involved in a very serious skiing accident while at Hunter Mountain with friends. He was immediately airlifted to Albany Med Center and before the end of the day he had Neurosurgery to repair the 6th vertebrae that was fractured. The surgery was successful but unfortunately he also had a contusion on his spinal cord as well as a gash in his left lung. He is being closely monitored by his Neurosurgeon as well as other Doctors and Nurses. He has a long recovery ahead, the Doctor said we are in the first mile of a long marathon and the recovery process will be slow and deliberate.
He currently has paralysis from the bellow button down and in his hand. The amount of rehab he will need is going to be extensive to reverse the paralysis. The Family are gearing up to be by his side every step of the way and to take one day at a time.
Everyone that knows Matt knows how selfless he is. He puts everyone before himself and always tries to make everyone laugh. He is the best brother, son and friend. You are lucky if you are part of his life!
Matt’s strength is unmatched and he’s already showing us in small ways that he’s fighting hard. While on FaceTime, we told him the Rangers won he lifted his hands up and even saw a little smile. If anyone is capable of making it through this, Matt is. With the help from all of you, we are cautiously optimistic that he will be back to the life he loves, surrounded by an amazing family and loyal friends. Hopefully after 2 weeks in Albany he will go to a rehab facility on Long Island. Thank you for your prayers, love and support it means everything!
