Saving Riley
On Tuesday June 23rd. Riley was rushed to the emergency vet. Originally thought to have something stuck in his throat. An x-ray determined he was in fact suffering from a twisted stomach. The emergency vet couldn’t perform the life saving surgery he needed but luckily close by was the Ontario Vet College in Guelph. I brought him there immediately driving speeds up to 180km/hr just to make sure he got there in time. They took him in and once he was stable performed the surgery on him. That night I was too scared to leave. Worried I wouldn’t have a chance to say bye. Because of COVID-19 I couldn’t even be inside the building. So I slept in my car in the parking lot. And by slept I mean I cried my eyes out terrified I’d lose my best friend. During surgery they had to remove his spleen because it became damaged by the twisted stomach. He also lost 2 litres of blood. And had to get a blood transfusion. He spent the next 48 hours in recovery in the ICU at the animal hospital. I was finally able to bring him home, but now he needs to be monitored closely and will have follow up appointments and still has to have his staples removed. The funds I am asking for is to cover his vet bills. Right now I am at 8200$ and that isn’t with the follow up appointments and staple removal.
Riley never quit on me. He has been my best friend for the last 12 years of my life. No matter the cost I could never quit on him. I owe him everything in this world and I would do everything possible to take care of him.
