Please help a mother be with her teenage daughter as she undergoes life-changing surgery in Summer 2019.
Vicky Santos (13) from Raphoe, has severe scoliosis, with a curve of over 100° to her spine.
Her mother Flavia Santos desperately wants to be with Vicky who has to undergo preoperative halo-gravity traction (HGT) followed by surgery to straighten her spine.
We need to raise about €6,000 as she will have to stop work to spend approximately 12 weeks in Dublin while Victoria has her operation. They are a wonderful family and I just want them to be as comfortable as possible.
Vicky will get her operation through the HSE but the family need funds so that Flavia can be in Dublin to support her daughter before, during and after the surgery.
Flavia was 16 years old when she came to Ireland from Brazil to complete her education.
After becoming pregnant almost immediately she had to put her studies on hold and fortunately, her family were very supportive. Vicky was born on 6th of December 2005 with missing chromosome 6p26 that occurs when there is an absent copy of genetic material.
A month after she was born, the doctor said her heart was good and that was the only reason that she would live. Everything else was affected- her speech, eating, sleeping and walking.
A tiny baby she weighed 1.6 KG when she was born and still has difficulty gaining weight. She suffers from reflux and gets sick at least 10 to 20 times a day.
The operation has to be performed by summer this year as her lungs are working at only 30% capacity and she has chronic pain in her head and stomach problems that are getting progressively worse.
Please help if you can or share the page so that others can help Flavia support her daughter during this difficult medical emergency.
