Volunteer Teaching Marshall Islands
Donation protected
Hello all!
My name is Nathan and I am about to embark on a year adventure to the Marshall Islands where I will be teaching English to the local populace.
A little bit of my personal background. I was born in Washington State but moved to Germany at the age of 9. Spending my formative years there and traveling all over Europe and Northern Africa, I have gained an appreciation for cultures and people during these travels. Upon graduating from high school I returned to Washington State to graduate from the University of Washington with a degree in Global Studies, which seemed like a natural match.
(Studying abroad in Western Australia with my buddy Giovanni from South Africa)
I have been working for a travel company for the last year of my life, while I enjoy it immensely I know that I need to fullfil personal goals before I can truly commit a professional career. With this being said, I would like to leave the comforts of family, friends, and job security to a volunteer program in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
I was recently accepted by WorldTeach to teach in the Marshall Islands for a year. The Marshall Islands is a small island country located in the North Pacific Ocean. This country continues to struggle with very few natural resources and ever present climate change. The United States have used a portion of the islands for nuclear weapon testing after World War 2.
This country has survived through colonization, world wars, and dangerous nuclear testing. As they have displayed their resilience to the changing world, I believe it is important to spend time with this Nation and provide the youth of this nation the best possible opportunities through education.
The program requires a deposit of $2000 for commitment to the program. This deposit will be returned after completion of my year contract. Upon completion, I will donate these funds to the community that has welcomed me/the host family that will be taking care of me while volunteering.
Anything helps as the average household income is only $7,000. While $2,000 doesn't seems much to our society, it makes up more than 1/4 of a household in the Marshall Islands - also, it will help make-up for putting up with me!
Thank you for your time to read about my future experience and any donations you may be able to provide!
