Updated Post: On the last day of March 2022, Kara and Wisdom were finally securely housed. Sadly, just a few weeks later, their original lease agreement was changed and they have been asked to leave 6 weeks earlier than expected. In January, Kara was given a scholarship to become certified as a parent coach through the Jai Institute for parenting. She will be done and able to accept paying clients at the beginning of August, which would have given her enough time to put together the needed funds to move. But with the change her focus has shifted to resettling instead of business building.
I'm inviting people to help me reach and even surpass the goal amount asked for. This family still deserves the best. And your investment will help them change the world! All funds collected will go towards helping them get rehoused and invested in rapidly growing their business.
Every investment counts. All dollars matter. To express my extreme appreciation, one of my thank you gifts is a PDF of a gratitude journal Kara created, as mentioned in the original post. It is still available upon request. Please note: you'll need to print it out double-sided and folded it in half to use it. It's meant to be written in versus filled in on a computer.
For those investing $100 or more, gift boxes will be sent, again upon request, when Kara and Wisdom have finally settled. It will contain a printed copy of the gratitude journal as well as coupons, two books and other goodies that are foundational to the business she is birthing!
Thank you for your support! I'm excited and grateful for what you're helping Kara and Wisdom to create. It is really needed in our the world.
Original post: Hi everyone, my name is Rachel Moore and I am an undergraduate student at North Carolina State University. One hot summer day while driving through town I saw a mother and her young son selling goodie bags and journals on the sidewalk with a sign that read “We need a home”. After pulling over, I introduced myself to Kara and her 5 year old son, Wisdom. I learned that they had unfortunately been experiencing housing insecurity. Throughout their experience, Kara has worked very hard to ensure that she and her son stay fed and under a roof at night. The pair have tried to stay in shelters, but they have proven to be poorly managed and overall inappropriate places for a young family to be. So, for 4 and a half weeks, Kara and Wisdom proceeded to live out of a storage unit where they kept their belongings. During that time, Kara developed the amazing gratitude journals that she was selling the day we met. When possible, they would use the proceeds from the journal sales to stay in hotels, but this is not a long term solution. What they need and are working toward is stable housing. I took them in for about 6 weeks to give Kara time to save up money for a home, but can no longer do so. My goal is to raise $3,500 by Wisdom’s 6th birthday, December 23rd, 2021. This money would provide them with the food, winter clothes, and secure housing that they need. Kara is such a positive presence to be around and she never once has complained about the unfortunate situation that she unexpectedly found herself and little Wisdom in. Wisdom is incredibly creative and smart. At 5 years old he already knows more Spanish than I do, despite my 3 years of Spanish language studies. It is no exaggeration that they truly deserve the world. Please help me in the effort to acquire some stability for these amazing people. Every single dollar counts! All contributors are able to receive a free copy of the gratitude journal that was uniquely created by Kara during this period of housing insecurity. If you would like a journal, please contact me through this fundraiser. Additionally, once they are settled, Kara would love to send gift boxes to anyone who contributes $100 or more. On behalf of myself, Kara, and Wisdom, we thank you for your thoughtfulness and consideration. Happy holidays and best wishes to all!
