Lifesaving Surgery for Freya
Donation protected
Hi friends,
UPDATE: Freya has had to have a second live saving surgery done today due to complications. I have since raised the amount of this gofundme to help offset the additional loans/lines of credit that had to be taken out in order to cover the costs which are now very nearly $20,000 give or take. I am so thankful for all the help we've already received, so please don't feel obligated to contribute. I am just shooting a shot in the dark here and hoping the universe can help us out a little bit. More of Freya's story below.
As most of you may know already, Freya has been having a very long bout with medical issues stemming from her allergies. She's been in and out of ERs and vets, been given all types of medications and new diets and its been a real struggle. She recently finished a round of antibiotics & steroids and started a new food that seems to be non reactive and was helping her put on weight. She was bouncing back and becoming her playful self again and it made all the struggles (both emotional & financial) worth it! I was so happy to see my baby bouncing back. Unfortunately, while I was away in WA, she got into something (most likely trash) and something hooked into her intestinal track causing what the vet called a lateral blockage/obstruction. This obstruction has lodged itself into her small intenstine causing her severe pain and an inability to properly process water as well as having zerp appetite. She was fine the day I got home, but pretty quickly began vomiting, then stopped eating and became extremely lethargic. At first I thought she'd just eaten something bad and it would pass but in the 3 days since she has declined rapidly. Today at the ER, they gave her an ultrasound, IV fluids, and did spme bloodwork. Upon finding the blockage on the ultrasound, they let me know that she needs an immediate surgery to remove the obstruction from her small intestines. This has to be done by a board surgeon because if she has any tears or punctures, she'll need additional procedures while in surgery. Without this surgery, her small intestines will continue to bunch around the object and could cause a rupture. It would also mean her continuing to not be able to eat or even walk and pretty quickly would lead to her passing. There is absolutely no question this surgery has to happen today. I've reached out to Twitch about getting an advance, I've pulled together all I have left on my credit cards, and asked everyone I knew who I could borrow from. Had this emergency happened 3 months ago before all her other health issues, I would've been able to manage, but as humbling as it is to admit, caring for her through all of this has cleared me out. Three ER visits, vet visits, meds, her very specific homemade diet, and everything else just added up to be a lot.
I know it's a big ask and I feel so uncomfortable asking, but I'll do whatever I need to get her cared for. If you have even a dollar to spare, it would seriously help out in her time of need. She's the best friend I've ever had and we've been through so much together, I can't imagine having her taken away from me so young.
The money from this gofundme will help to cover the cost (on the low end) of her surgery plus the costs of her tests and ultrasounds today. I paid $1500 for the ER and the doctors says that the surgery can be as little as $6k and as high as $10k, so I just aimed for the low end hoping to goodness for a miracle.
If you aren't able to contribute, I totally understand, you can also help by sharing the gofundme post on socials. And if nothing else, please think positive thoughts for my baby. Thank you for reading all of this if you've made it this far. Hug your babies for me please.
