Cynda Mort Scholarship
Donation protected
On May 16, 2015 Cynda Mort lost her fight against cancer.
She was an inspiration to students, co-workers, and the community in general with her tireless work in building one of the best K-12 journalism programs in the country from scratch. After this wonderful more-than-13-year contribution to the Pinellas County Schools, she retired in March.
The past few weeks the Journeys in Journalism program honored her at events at the three journalism schools, Melrose Elementary, John Hopkins Middle and Lakewood High. where two deserving seniors were awarded the Cynda Mort Scholarship for Outstanding Scholastic Journalist, each for $1,000.
In addition to the scholarships, generous donations to this funding site allowed us to have cast bronze plaques made naming the newsrooms at John Hopkins and Lakewood for Cynda.
We are continuing the fundraising to seed the scholarships for next year and beyond. All donations will be transferred to the Pinellas Education Foundation.
If you wish to donate to the foundation directly, please go to www.pinellaseducation.org (click on donate, then enter "Cynda Mort Scholarship/Lakewood" in the comment box).
Thank you to everyone who has donated or plans to do so.
