Heart Surgery

hello My name is Karen. I’m organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my daughter Rachel and her family. They have fallen on some hard times. They were a 2 income family trying to make ends meet, but recently had to drop down to just one income.

When Rachel was pregnant, a routine ultrasound revealed the her baby had a heart defect. Which was initially diagnosed as a Right-sided Aortic Arch. After baby River was born, they did an echo and confirmed that he does have a Right- Aortic Arch that will require surgery. However when River was 6 months old, a CT scan was performed on his heart revealed his defect is a Double Aortic Arch instead of a single.

River will be undergoing heart surgery beginning of April. If it were to go untreated it would eventually cut off his airway. He can only eat purified food and drink formula for now to prevent him from choking. He will be in the ICU for a few days and a week under nurses care. Once discharged from the hospital it will take 2 to 3 months of recovery and up to a year for a full recovery. Provided there are no complications.

while River was in daycare, he contracted Covid and then hospitalized for RSV. Rachel missed a lot of work, unpaid during those months. Rachel is now staying home full time to keep him well for surgery and will continue to stay home with him through the post op care.

if you could find it in your hearts to donate anything it will help relieve a lot of their financial stress so they will be able to focus on Rivers recovery. The funds will go towards Rivers essentials, gas for doctors appointments, rent, utilities, etc.
