Rick's Car Accident Relief Fund
On June 28th, my father Rick Aschenbeck and his son Dustin Aschenbeck were on their way to Jackson, WY when they were stopped short by a terrible car accident. They were air lifted to a trauma center in Idaho Falls, Idaho where they are currently being treated. Rick's injuries include a traumatic brain injury, two brain bleeds, eight broken ribs, and a broken neck. He has been sleeping often as a result of his TBI and is not yet fully aware of what happened or where he is. Nor does he remember anything about the accident or the events leading up to it. He is also experiencing both long and short term memory loss. He has had a low grade fever and a decrease in his lung capacity. Every 30 minutes, we are working on strengthening his lungs with breathing treatments to avoid pneumonia. Overall, his condition is very serious but stable. Dustin shattered his pelvis, broke four ribs, and fractured his clavicle. His pain level is still too severe to assess whether surgery will be required or not.
Though their pain is tremendous, we are celebrating their beating hearts and taking each day with grit and abundant gratitude.
My father is looking at the possibility of weeks to a month in the hospital here in Idaho. After he is released, we will move him to Montana for further rehabilitation until he is cleared to travel back home to Georgia. My mother will be moving here indefinitely. I will be traveling back and forth from my home in Montana to help my mom with his care as I am able to. To help with the costs, I have created this GoFundMe. No donation is too small. Our lives have been promptly changed and we need your help on this journey.
Thank you for those who have reached out to us and have shown an outpouring of love, prayers, and support. We love and appreciate all of you.
