Rory Pederson Prosthetic Leg Fund
Donation protected
My name is Augie Pabst III. I'm establishing this GoFundMe campaign to help a longtime friend and part-time employee (mechanic), Rory Pederson, to obtain a new replacement prosthetic leg. Many in the racing community know Rory or have at least have seen him working his tail off on various sports cars and formula cars over the last three decades. It's not uncommon to see Rory running down pitlane, pushing a race car or hopping over the wall with a booster battery. Those who have seen or know Rory, know he has a prosthetic leg (right side) from the knee down. What many don't realize is that Rory has been using his current prosthetic leg since 1994! Rory's leg is 21 YEARS OLD! "My leg is old enough to drink!!", Rory said jokingly the other day. Rory has been continuously repairing the leg over the years with various epoxies and carbon cloth, just to get by. Recently, the leg has been causing him so many problems along with a lot of pain and sores. I asked Rory if I could help him to research the possibility of finding him a NEW leg. So we contacted John Angelico at Scheck & Siress near Chicago (prosthetic specialists), the same fellow and the same company that built Rory's 21 year old leg. John was blown away that "he still has that leg??" He told me that most legs are used from 5-10 years max. Cost for a new leg of Rory's type ranges from $12,000 - $15,000 and even more with special options. John has offered to build Rory a NEW leg for a deeply discounted price of $9,000.00
I would like you to consider helping Rory to purchase this new leg. Rory does not have insurance or a big checkbook to cover this cost. We have looked into various foundations and amputee assistance programs to find that the best we could procure would be a "used" leg from somebody else. This is something (the ability to use our legs) many of us simply take for granted. This is something Rory needs every single day to work and maintain the quality of life that he has forged on with since losing his leg. Rory lost his leg after scar tissue developed, stemming from a go-kart racing accident at Road America in 1985, and closed off the artery behind his right knee, eventually causing the need for amputation. To make matters worse, he had to have it re-amputated shortly after because the first amputation was done at the wrong angle.
I am starting this campaign with a personal donation from my family and I, for $1,000. Please consider donating to help Rory get back on his feet, LITERALLY! There is no amount too small. Thank you for your consideration!
