Help Cyclist Farid Noori Recover Crash with Truck
Donation protected
On Saturday evening, March 26, in Taos, New Mexico, Farid was on a beautiful bike ride when he crashed directly into an oncoming pickup truck on a narrow descent around a sharp curve.

He does not remember much other than hitting the front of the truck and finding himself on the ground, unable to move. He was immediately transferred to the local ER by 911 dispatchers. The doctors found his lungs had collapsed, and he had ten broken ribs, a broken collarbone, scapula, sternum, and two broken vertebrae. They stabilized his lungs and immediately evacuated him by helicopter to the Trauma Center at UNM Medical Center in Albuquerque. Gratefully and almost miraculously, he suffered no head or spinal cord injuries and has been conscious, clear-minded, and well oriented in time and space since the accident and has no enduring numbness in his limbs. He has been in a great deal of pain but has remained positive and brave since Saturday night.
Our family first met Farid in the fall of 2011 when he was a first-year student at UWC-USA and a member of the inaugural Social Entrepreneurship Incubator, raising support and funds for a tennis program for girls in his home country of Afghanistan. He first started mountain biking on weekend visits with our family in Taos. We continued close contact with him throughout his four years studying at Middlebury College in Vermont. We were thrilled to have this opportunity to catch up in NM during his Spring Break from Fayetteville, where he is a Graduate Student at the University of Arkansas. A few hours before the accident, we had had a lovely hike down to the Rio Grande. We became concerned when he was late for dinner.

Farid has an enduring commitment to helping others. He is the founder of the non-profit Mountain Bike Afghanistan. Since its founding in 2018, MBA has helped mountain biking grow across Afghanistan through grassroots movements. Farid’s only source of income is his graduate assistant stipend.
We are exceedingly grateful that Farid's condition has stabilized, and we believe he will have a full recovery. However, the expenses from this life-threatening accident will put him under a mountain of debt.
Your donations will help cover Farid’s recovery expenses beyond his health insurance reimbursements. There may be additional expenses related to his rehabilitation and treatment, in which case we will start a follow-up fundraiser.
Thank you for helping Farid. We are grateful to all whose skill and compassion have helped save his life so far.
