Saba and her new start ❤️

Saba Shahzad is a woman I have been in touch with for the last several months. I came across her story via form on my Facebook Community - Soul Sisters Pakistan. We connected and as a film maker I decided to work towards documenting Saba’s story in a documentary.

As that is a very long process that involves a lot of time, in the meanwhile I made a tiktok video with a short brief of what she has been through and how she’s picking up the pieces after extreme domestic violence. She’s currently living off child benefit that the government gives for her kids and a few odd jobs.

Many people on tiktok and Instagram reached out to want to send her money so rather than making her account details public, we decided to make a gofundme. Although our goal was only to raise 2-3000 as a gift, the generosity of donors was overwhelming and overnight we accumulated over 9000 dollars!

Today I have filled out my account details in the form and will be giving the money to Saba through bank transfer (interac), cheque or cash - what ever mode is easiest for her. She lives about one hour from me in GTA, Canada.

A snippet of her story:

Saba moved to Canada in August 2010 after an arranged marriage to a man from her village. When she came here she had to move into a house with all his brothers and their wives. And landed into a space where she was abused for years. I shared her story on tiktok and when it went viral so many of you asked to send her money and gifts.

This little fundraiser is meant for those kind gestures and to give the money directly to Saba! I’ve set a small goal and we can share as much as we raise with her! Hopefully exceeding this goal. ❤️
