Sabino Ramirez Munoz's Medical Expenses

"When one door closes, another door opens." This quote is the motto of my father's life. My mother always told me the story of how my father ended up finding his open door with J & D Produce, Inc. My father, Sabino Ramirez Munoz, worked at another produce warehouse in the Rio Grande Valley. It wasn't a very positive experience, and ultimately he and my mother decided that the best decision he could make was to walk away. I was a week old when he found J & D, a small warehouse where he saw the potential to grow. They took a chance on him and allowed him to grow with the company. Over the years, he has worked in every position in production. Each of those positions leads him to where he is today. He found himself gaining knowledge in the mechanical and electrical fields. Many who know my father see him as a cat with nine lives. He had a door fall on him, cut his hand and was even electrified. Nothing has been able to stop him from coming into his work playground. Throughout his career, he has gained not just friends but a family who would be by his side during trying times.

On July 13, 2022, my father was admitted into Methodist Hospital Northeast in Live Oak, Texas. He was not feeling well due to Gas Gangrene of the left foot and ankle. He required a procedure to clean out his infected wound that same day. The Doctor who worked on his injury told us that, unfortunately, his infection had spread and would require amputation immediately. In the following days, my father, had to grapple with the possibility of not being able to work and the drastic changes in his life. On Friday, July 15, 2022, he said goodbye to his left leg as he departed for surgery. You would think with something this drastic that he would fall into depression but he was cracking jokes with the nurses and doctors. "I think the surgeon made a mistake? He didn't even it out.", he told everyone. He is now back in the Rio Grande Valley at South Texas Health System Rehabilitation Center. He is working hard to try to get back to his family at home and at work. You see, he is not complete when he is not working at J & D Produce, Inc. Here, he found his second chance at a happy workplace and he's determined to make the most out of his new life back in Edinburg with his Little Bear family.
