Sac PD K9 to honor fallen officer Tara O’Sullivan
Donation protected
On the evening of June 19 Sacramento Police Officer Tara O’Sullivan, just months out of the academy and only 26 years old, was shot and killed while assisting a woman who reported a domestic violence problem.
Tara was a person of extraordinary character, who embraced life with an enthusiasm admired by all who knew her. She lived her life with vigor, always a participant - never a spectator.
Tara loved people and dogs above all else, loving police work nearly as much. To honor her affinity for all three, we are looking to fund a police canine. Because of her unwavering desire to serve and protect those in the Sacramento area, the family wishes to raise enough money to provide the Sacramento Police Department with a canine officer in her name.
Our goal is $20,000 - that’s the estimate covers the following:
- Purchase the canine officer candidate;
- Pay for the travel and associated costs to get the dog to Sacramento;
- Train, feed, and house while undergoing training;
- Provide required medical care;
- Purchase equipment needed to place the police dog with her new partner.
Your donations will be collected and delivered to the Sacramento Police Canine Association. This is the only fundraising campaign initiated by the family and undertaken in cooperation with the Sacramento Police Department.
If you have any questions about the disposition of these funds, you can contact Sgt Joshua Dobson of the SPD K9 division.
