Hi everyone. This is Melany. I never in a million years imagined I would have to do this. I’ve created this GoFundMe on behalf of my family as we face the most difficult challenge of our lives. Recently my father, Donald Sacco JR., has been diagnosed with Esthesioneuroblastoma, also known as Olfactory Neuroblastoma. It’s an extremely rare form of cancer that forms as a tumor in the nasal cavity and affects only about 1 person per 2.5 million each year. Doctors believe it is stage 4, but we are waiting on more tests and a body scan. As of right now we know he will need a surgery in Boston that will take place in February. It is a very delicate procedure that will take about 24 hours and he’ll need to stay in the hospital for about 5 days to be monitored afterwards. This will be followed by other treatments and months of recovery.
My father recently missed months of work due to a knee injury followed by surgery and physical therapy. That was a huge financial hit for my family. He will now be out of work again for an unknown amount of time while he fights this battle. We are asking for any help to assist with these expenses including a room in Boston to stay with my dad while he undergoes surgery and recovery, medical expenses, home care, and other basic necessities to get us through this difficult time.
My dad is a good man. He has always put his family and others before him. He is a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is a Mason and a Shriner. He has spent a lot of time raising money and awareness for the sick children at the Shriners Hospitals. He is a veteran of the US Navy and served our country with honor. He is a man of faith.
This whole ordeal took us all by complete surprise. We are in no way prepared for this battle. So we are asking for your help in any way. Financial, emotional, or spiritual.
