Sadaqah Jaariyah for our beloved Hashim Hashi

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un
إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ
"Verily we belong to Allah, and verily to Him do we return." (2:156)
Our beloved brother Hashim Hashi passed away last night in a senseless shooting he had nothing to do with. He went out to get food with a couple of friends and as he was entering the parking garage to his home, he was shot and killed instantly. We are still trying to make sense of everything that has happened.
Everyone who knew Hashim knew how good hearted and loving he was. Hashim was a second year student at Humber College/University of Guelph and was working toward completing his accounting degree. He was a kind, gentle soul that lit up every room he entered. He was an amazing son, brother, cousin, nephew and friend. To honour Hashim’s memory, we the family are setting up this fund in order for him to benefit from a continuous, and ongoing charity. We intend to build multiple water wells in rural Somalia, help complete a masjid and donate the rest to an orphanage so that the children can benefit by receiving food and supplies.
The following Hadith gives us the good news that even after our death, Sadaqah Jariyah continues to benefit us:
On the authority of Abu Hurairah (ra) that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, ‘When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (a continuous charity), or knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him’. (Muslim)
“We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger, and the loss of wealth and lives and the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently preserve, who say — when afflicted with calamity — “To God we belong, and to Him we shall return!” They are on those whose descend blessings from their Lord, and Mercy. Such are the rightly guided.”
(Quran 2:155-157)
This dunya is filled with trials and tribulations that every individual will go through no matter your status or circumstance. We must remember our loved ones always and stay steadfast in the remembrance of Allah SWT and our purpose in this world. We have lost many of our youth in this city, and unfortunately today it was one of our own. We pray that no other family suffers a tragedy like this and we pray Hashim will get the justice he deserves in this world and the Hereafter. Ameen.
Hashim's sister, Hodman Hashi, will be in charge of receiving and allocating the funds donated. Please keep Hashim and his family in your prayers. May Allah SWT raise his ranks in Jannah and grant his family sabr. We pray that Allah SWT accepts all of our du'aa for Hashim and may we be reunited in Jannah Insha Allah. Ameen.
