Sadaqah Jaria Water Project Appeal 2024

As'Salamu Alay'kum,

Water is a blessing from Allah (SWT) that we often take for granted, but during Ramadan, through the mercy of Allah, we become more conscious of the difficulties faced by those without access to safe, clean water. Giving water is a highly recommended action in Islam, and its rewards are multiplied even further during this blessed month.

We use water for everything from drinking, washing dishes to cooking food to growing crops. Allah says in the Quran, ‘By means of water, we give life to everything’ (Quran, 21:30). Communities who don’t have access to clean water face unimaginable hardships, with women and children walking for hours to collect even a little water, and families unable to support themselves due to lack education and livelihood. Having access to safe, clean water is a basic human right and fulfilling this right is Sadaqah Jaria.

Current Appeal:

During our charity campaigns across greater Sylhet. The Shebba Foundation team have identified the area of Gowauinghat https://maps.app.goo.gl/oWZRQDMH7vtBZLin7), whereby 70 families share water from a few tubewells positioned across the area. During monsoon season, families are cut off from accessing these tubewells (https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGef8xoQb) and therefore they rely on the water from the river and or wade through the rivers to bring back clean water.

The Shebba Foundation Team would like to raise funds for 10 x tubewells to make it easier for the families to have access clean water not matter the season/weather. The costings are likely to be up to £500 per deep water tubewells.

Think about your loved ones who are alive and who have passed away. This will be a Sadaqah Jaria project for every use. The tubewells will have a name plate of your choosing. You can either contribute towards one or have a tubewell named after your family or loved ones.

It is ‘the best charity’

Sa’d ibn ‘Ubadah reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, my mother has died. Shall I give charity on her behalf?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Yes.” I said, “Which charity is best?” The Prophet said, “A drink of water.” (Sunan al-Nasā’ī 3664)

Moreover, he (saw) said,

‘Pouring what remains from your bucket into the bucket of your brother is charity’ [Tirmidhi]

The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, said “Give the Sadaqah without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity.” (Tirmidhi)
