“Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return.”
On April 5th, 2021, we received the gut wrenching news of the death of six of our immediate family members in a tragic murder suicide .
My father in law, Mohammad Islam is Altafun Nessa’s younger brother, the much loved grandmother of Farbin, Farhan and Tanvir, who tragically was among those killed on April 5th.
Our extended family is devastated, and we know that coming to terms with everything that happened will be a lifelong process for us. For now, we are compelled to cope in the only way we know how. To give back. Our faith, Islam, talks about Sadaqah Jariyah, or perpetual charity, and how after loved ones pass, one of the things that provides those who have departed with a sense of relief is the work of charity that carries on in their absence. As we approach the holy month of Ramadan, we humbly ask for your support in creating a Sadaqah Jariyah fund on behalf of the entire family, so that all six souls can be at ease.
While you have heard many details about the heartbreaking deaths of our family members, we also want to share more about how they lived, and impacted those around them.
Altafun Nessa, 77 was a loving mother of 6 children who she raised on her own after her husband died at a young age. Her grace and loving nature compelled her to step in and also help raise her daughter Iren’s children. She traveled back and forth from Bangladesh to Texas, helping raise her grandkids.
Iren Islam, 56 also known as Mary was the caring mother of the Farbin, Farhan and Tanvir, and worked tirelessly to build their home and raise three impactful children.
Towhidul Islam, 54 Mary’s husband was a hardworking husband and father who wanted to do right by his family, and ultimately enabled a better life for them all in Texas.
Farbin Towhid, 19 was an incredibly talented artist. Her smile brightened up every room she entered, and her art touched people deeply.
The victims of the family had so much more to offer to this world, and we are devastated that their lives were all cut so short.
May Allah (SWT) have mercy on the victims, may they be under His shade today and always, and may He grant them entrance into Jannah (paradise).
Ameen.
Please keep the family in your prayers.
