Saddle River Legal Challenge to Bow Hunt

Tax deductible
Against the will of the people and with a complete lack of credible research or baseline data, Saddle River’s Mayor Al Kurpis and the Council voted on July 26, 2018 to commence a massacre of the deer population by contracting with a recreational bow hunting organization. By its construct, the Saddle River hunting program is aligned with recreational hunting rather than a bona fide wildlife conflict management program.

Bow hunting is cruel and inhumane. The struck animal will often travel long distances as he, or she slowly and painfully succumbs to death. Even worse, bow hunting, results in deer wound rates that are close to 50 percent.  (1)

Not surprisingly, after the hunting in Saddle River started, several deer struck by arrows wandered into adjacent properties. As of November 9, In reports obtained through the Open Public Records Act, three of these wounded deer were never retrieved.

Bow hunting in a suburban town such as Saddle River puts all its residents including its children and pets in harm’s way—where a single misfired or ricocheting razor-tipped arrow can wreak instant tragedy.

Kurpis recognizes other towns are watching Saddle River, as he states on a number of occasions these promotes hunting the hunt to other surrounding towns arrogantly states that all towns are looking to Saddle River as the gateway to similar massacres across Bergen County.

If you are concerned about your family’s personal safety, privacy rights, financial liability, diminished property values, and damage to the overall integrity of your borough, please contribute to fund a STRONG legal challenge that can help shut down this unsubstantiated, incredibly dangerous, and ill-fated approach to wildlife management in Saddle River. We must set a precedent for the rest of Bergen County so other towns do not engage in any similar imprudence.
