Sadie Runs for Sagsai!
Donation protected
Hello everyone! For those who don’t know, I spent the last pre-COVID year living and teaching in the wonderful country of Mongolia. I had the honor of living in a small Kazakh community called Sagsai, which happens to be one of the only remaining communities that currently practices eagle hunting and nomadic lifestyle. During my time there I fell in love with the amazing people of my community and their rich culture. I was so impressed by my students’ eagerness to learn that I was constantly trying to think of new ways to help them excel in spite of their limited resources.
Aside from being the best teacher I could be, one of my goals while living in Mongolia was to complete a marathon. Unfortunately, my time there was cut short due to covid, and I wasn’t able to achieve that goal. For my birthday this year I have decided to try again, but instead of a marathon, I am going to do 28 miles (one for each year I’ve been alive) in honor of my Sagsai students!
One of my teaching counterparts and dear friends from Sagsai, Bakhitgul Altai, has recently joined forces with the founder of Equity Global Treks, Marinel de Jesus, in creating a summer camp that will provide students the opportunity to engage directly with tourists. They will do activities such as cook traditional foods, play traditional games, and teach their local language and traditions such as handcrafting and eagle hunting. This camp will give students the chance to learn about other parts of the world and progress significantly in their English speaking abilities. In addition, it will give tourists the chance to fully immerse themselves in the nomadic culture in the most exciting way possible.

The funds raised will be donated directly to the founders of Khusvegi Camp to purchase necessary materials and study tools for the camp such as books, worksheets, games, food, crafts and dictionaries. Any donations are very much appreciated. Thank you for your consideration!
