Sadie’s Tethered Cord Syndrome

Donation protected

Over the course of the last 8-12 months Sadie has struggled with some unusual symptoms. She has had radiographs, CT scans (with and without contrast), MRI’s, multiple blood panels and cytologies, as well as speciality referrals with radiology, behaviour, internal medicine, dermatology and neurology!
It has been a very long, costly and frustrating process fighting for answers. I am happy to say it seems as though we have found a light at the end of the tunnel. Most recently the MRI, along with consultations of neurology and behaviour, have tentatively given Sadie a diagnosis of Tethered Cord Syndrome.

  • “Tethered cord syndrome (TCS) results from tension caused by an abnormal anchoring of the end portion of the spinal cord within the spinal canal. This results in the normal, gliding movement of the spinal cord being restricted, and the subsequent stretching can cause various neurological symptoms.”

In order to definitively, diagnose and treat Sadie’s symptoms, a dynamic MRI repeated in flexed/extended positions, performed under supervision of both a Radiologist and Neurologist must be performed. Followed by surgery to relieve tension on her spinal cord.

As we do not have any Veterinary Neurologist within Atlantic, Canada, Sadie and I will have to travel out of province for these procedures, which will add additional cost of travel and accommodations.
