Saephanh Family Memorial Fund
Donation protected
Yesterday on Wednesday March 11 2020 our dear friend and colleague Nai Saephanh and her family, unexpectedly lost their mother Ying Sinh at the young age of 54. March 11 was also Nai's 28th birthday. Ying leaves behind three children Nai, Kao and Mey and her devoted husband Thawn.
Due to the constraints of the Shaman who performs the funeral rights over a period of 3 days, ceremonies will begin Friday the 13th and burial of Ying's body will occur on Tuesday March 17th.
In an effort to support her and her loved ones during this tragic time we are asking our network of people who equally love and care for Nai to donate what they can.
In Taoist tradition there are "Good Days" to be buried. For the month of March these days land on Sunday the 15th, Tuesday the 17th, Wednesday the 18th and Wednesday the 25th. There are a total of 3 days of ceremonies leading up to the burial. For the Saephanh family (again, due to Shaman availability) they will begin ceremonies as soon as tomorrow Friday the 13th. Which is why your financial support is appreciated during this unexpected time.
To understand more about their family culture in an effort to connect with Nai and her loved ones we humbly ask that you please review the following important tradition of the Taoist culture:
Funeral attendees give the deceased’s family a white envelope with money to help with funeral payments. However, the money amount should be odd because an even amount means “double happiness.” Double-happiness would mean that you are happy the person is deceased and therefore would prolong their entry into the afterlife. It also shouldn’t end in nine because it means “long-lasting,” which suggests long-lasting grief.
If people would like to directly donate to the family without fee's; Nai's Venmo is @oncloudnai
During this time we ask that any communication you would like to share with Nai and her family be sent through this site or directly to Siobhan Holcombe at [email redacted] or Alice Bowman at [email redacted]. We will share your condolences and regards in an effort to allow Nai and her family the time and space to grieve and prepare for services.
In Kindness,
Siobhan and Alice
