Safari Horses vs Covid

Help us keep 13, big 5, safari horses together and well.
To the Horseman, Horsewoman and all how care about Horses’ well-being.
We, the Horseback Safari Company have as many other companies finally felt the devastating effects caused by Covid on the Tourism industry. And it hit us hard.
My name is Tamlyn Whitebread, owner of The Horse Safari Company. I was part of a Joint Venture on a Big 5 Game Reserve. A month ago I was told that the company would no longer support the Horse Safaris. To make matters worse, we were told to leave the premises by the end of January 2021! This implied that I would have to move and maintain 13 Horses by myself.
The realisation of the task ahead was a tremendous shock to me. With no money or a place to move them to, the obvious answer would be to sell the herd. Easier said than done! Apart from our economy being at an all-time low, ensuring they all find great homes is a daunting and extremely difficult task. None the less, I believe the company has a future and will survive!
I have recently been blessed to have obtained a piece of land where I can move them to. It’s not big, but it’s better than nothing. Grazing will suffice for the interim, but complimentary feeding will have to be done soon. They will be barefoot to lower any additional costs.
I will need help in the following:
· Finance for fuel & Transport for moving them to the new Reserve.
· Horse feed, grass & medicine.
· Hoof care
· Fuel to get feed and care to horses
It’s a 300km journey to the new Reserve which lies in Mpumalanga where Low veldt meets Highveld with spectacular views & natural beauty. Also Big 5 & hopefully their forever home. With Reserve costs being very high and no income from ecotourism coming in, a mutually beneficial agreement was reached between the reserve owners and I where the Horses can assist with Anti-Poaching efforts. (Meat poaching has increased dramatically since South-Africa went into Lockdown in February as thousands of jobs were cut/lost and people had no means of income and or obtaining food). I have offered to train two willing riders from their current APU (Anti Poaching unit) to enable them to be more effective.
Please help me keep this magnificent herd of Horses together that will one day again carry guests through this magnificent & beautiful landscape of Africa.
Thank you in advance to all for any support given to these beautiful horses in their new unknown journey
Kind regards.
Tamlyn Whitebread.
