Help Safe Arbors Carbondale Reunite an Afghan Family
Donation protected
We are the Safe Arbors Carbondale Sponsorship Circle. We are in urgent need of funds to reunite an Afghan family living in our community.
In 2022 through Carbondale CAIRS, we welcomed an Afghan couple to Carbondale, Illinois. This couple escaped during the collapse of the Afghan government in Kabul, August 31, 2021. After stays in Mexico and Virginia, they arrived in Carbondale, April of 2022 with a little bit of English and a baby on the way. That engaging, funny little girl Taqwa is now almost two years old, and her parents are working hard to build a beautiful life for her here. Sayed has worked for two years at a local business while painting houses in his spare time. Helai is part of the Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program at Shawnee Health.
Tragically, Helai's family, her parents and 5 siblings now aged 5-20 years, had to stay in Kabul, Afghanistan. Through support from Carbondale CAIRS, the family was able to obtain passports and visas to get to Pakistan where they now live as refugees. For the family's protection we are not able to use their photographs.
Welcome Corps (Welcomecorps.org) affiliated with the U.S. State Department has just opened a door for Afghan families trapped in Pakistan to reunite in the United States. We must take action before that door closes.
Safe Arbors Carbondale must raise at least $16, 975.00 ($2,425.00 per person) to bring this family to Carbondale. When we reach $10,185.00, we can file the application to get the transition wheels rolling. All the funds raised will be used to help the family resettle in Carbondale. They will need: housing, dental, medical, education, transportation, housing supplies, clothing, and their legal fees for asylum.
Your donation will help reunite this family. Our lives have been enriched knowing Helai, Sayed, and Taqwa. Their ongoing contribution to our community enriches us all.
We regret that currently we are not able to offer receipts for charitable tax donations (we are not a 501(C)3).

Please, share this information with others who might want to contribute. We will provide updates regarding funding and the family's progress.
The members of Safe Arbors Carbondale thank you for your support!
